MAYHEM – ASHES [VINYL]

Contains the 4-song promo ’90, two studio rarities and four rehearsals from ’90/’91 by this mythical Norwegian Black Metal band.

This record is a tribute to both members of Mayhem that passed away- vocalist Per Yngve ‘Pelle’ Ohlin, also known by his stage name ‘Dead’, who passed away by suicide. Alongside him in this tribute is guitarist and founding member- Øystein Aarseth, also known by his stage name ‘Euronymous’, who passed away due to being murdered by former Mayhem Bass player Christian ‘Varg’ Vikernes. Vikernes has gone under various pseudonyms such as ‘Count Grishnackh’ and changed his legal name a multitude of times. He is currently known as Louis Cachet (taking on his wife’s maiden name). He was imprisoned for 21 years for the murder of his former bandmate.

There is a square poster inside- 1 side has a tribute to Dead and side 2 has a tribute to Euronymous.
There is a matrix number etched on both sides of the record, but it is difficult to read, because it has been burnt away.

The name of the record, alongside the burnt matrix number, is a tribute to the Mayhem activity of burning churches, although singer ‘Dead’ never took part of any of this activity and the church burnings took place after ‘Dead’s’ suicide.
